Shakespeare scholar Regina Buccola will present on the works of playwrights Thomas Middleton & Thomas Dekker, who collaborated on a series of pamphlets when the plague closed theaters in 1603 London.
Their work focused not so much on the disease itself but on the behavior of the ruling classes in response to it. Actors from The Shakespeare Project will read from the playwrights’ works.
