The United Nations has declared the decade 2014-2024 the period in which the “Atlantic World” will celebrate the accomplishments of the African diaspora.
Many individuals have accomplished much despite their slave heritage; many have risen to prominence. One such person was Vicente Ramón Guerrero, who became the first Black President in North America. Dr. Cranston Knight's lecture will focus not only on his rise to power but also on his decree, which freed all African Slaves in Mexico in 1829.
