Contemporary Native Americans in Illinois

Pamala Silas, a member of Menominee Indian Tribe and an Oneida descendant, will explore how the public learns about and views Native Americans.

Pamala will also speak about some of the misconceptions, demographic data, and topical issues that the Native community has prioritized. Her lecture will end in an informal circle, similar to a talking circle, to connect participants’ own family and community experiences with some of the themes, including finding resources to learn more and get involved locally.

Pamala is the former Associate Director for Northwestern University’s Center for Native American and Indigenous Research.
