Maxwell Street Klezmer Band is Chicago’s longest-running Jewish ensemble. Maxwell Street is producing its 6th album, recorded at the band’s 40th anniversary concert at the Old Town School of Folk Music last year. From Carnegie Hall to weddings and other celebrations, Maxwell Street keeps toes tapping with deft musicianship and upbeat Yiddish songs like “Bei Mir Bistu Sheyn (Means that You’re Grand). The band’s musical director is Alex Koffman, violin. The Quartet also features original band clarinetist Shelley Yoelin, Gail Mangurten on keyboard, and featuring Broadway vocalist Lisa Fishman.
